Progress on racial justice, safety and dispute resolution; KP digs in on destructive staffing and economic positions

With contract negotiations entering their final scheduled days next week, our bargaining team made progress on racial justice, patient and worker safety, and improving dispute resolution. But KP clung to destructive, unsustainable positions on economics and staffing. The final national bargaining sessions are next Wednesday, September 8, through Friday, September 10.

This week our members showed up and wore their union shirts for Union Solidarity Tuesdays!

KP chose this moment to intimidate our members from showing their union pride, but WE WILL NOT BE STOPPED!

DAILY BARGAINING UPDATE | WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2021

Today the Alliance released a new analysis of KP’s two-tier wage proposal. If implemented, the KP proposal would see newly-hired USW mobility techs, housekeeping attendants, and dietary aides in the Inland Empire earning less than California minimum wage! KP’s proposed two-tier system would only make the wage injustice in the Inland Empire worse.

The first of three days of national bargaining started with both labor and management accepting the initial recommendations presented by the Patient & Worker Safety and Problem and Dispute Resolution subcommittees.However, the tone quickly changed when the issue of economics came up.

Last week, Kaiser Permanente presented proposals at the National bargaining table to disrespect and divide our workforce. They offered only 1% across the board wage increases designed to lower our earnings over time.  KP refuses to recognize our hard work.

At the local bargaining table, we were prepared last Friday for KP’s response to our local proposals. We scheduled this meeting to finalize items to resolve or escalate to the National Bargaining table.
