Strike FAQ's
7600 Strike FAQs – 10/5/25
When will the strike start and where do I go?
The strike is scheduled to start at 7am on Tuesday, October 14. If you are scheduled to work on Tuesday before 7am, you should report to work as normal. Then, at 7am you will end your shift in the same way you normally would, following any regular procedures. Everyone who is on shift will then walk out together and join the picket line in a powerful show of solidarity!
If your clinic shuts down operations during the strike, or you work at a location in a business plaza or Target store, we will not picketing those locations. Instead you’ll be able to join us on the lines at another location. You’ll be able to choose the location that’s most convenient for you!
If you work remotely, we’ll be excited to see you in person with us on the lines! You’ll be able to choose the location that’s most convenient for you.
If you are not working at that time, you should plan to show up at your scheduled picket time. DO NOT show up to picket before 7am.
We will be texting out a form where you can sign up for your picket shifts in the coming days.
What is picketing?
Picketing is how we show our strength. Picketing means having a visible presence at our workplaces to show management, our community and our patients what we’re fighting for.
During your picket shift, you will walk the picket line with your co-workers. You can chant and sing, play music, and organize fun activities to celebrate our solidarity. Family, friends and kids are welcome on our lines! We will have water and snacks available and together will work to make sure picketing is a positive experience for members and our communities.
What if the clinic where I work closes?
We know KP will likely close various locations in the event of a strike, which is why we’re allowing members to sign-up for picket shifts at any operating location.
If you sign up to picket at a location that later closes operation, you’ll keep your same schedule, but simply change locations.
Who do we report to on our picket lines?
We have Picket Captains assigned to each picketing location for every shift. They are your go-to for all picketing and strike-related questions. You will check-in for your shift with your picket captain upon arrival and check-out when you leave.
Picket Captains are responsible for enforcing our picket line rules, troubleshooting issues, handling media requests or donations and dealing with any security or legal issues on the lines.
Can I picket if I am on leave (including paid family leave, sick leave, workers comp and FMLA)?
We would not want you to compromise your leave. However, you may be able to assist in other ways. To get info about potential non-picketing activities you can do to show your support, fill out this form and someone will follow up with you.
How long will the strike last?
It will be a 5-day strike, starting Tuesday October 14 at 7am. We will provide detailed instructions about how and when you will return to work at the end of the five days.
What if I have medical appointments or surgeries scheduled during the strike? Or need to help transport family/friends who have appointments?
We encourage you to try to reschedule any medical appointments scheduled during the strike. However, if it’s not possible to reschedule, you can get a Picket Pass from a USW Picket Captain. When you arrive, stop to see a Picket Captain, let them know why you’re entering the facility, and they will give you a one-time Picket Pass that you can use to show you’re only going in for a medical need and not in order to scab (work during a strike). You will need to return the pass when you leave.
I’m on probation. Can I strike?
Yes! Probationary employees are covered under our union contract and have the same legal protections to strike. All probationary employees are expected to sign-up for picket shifts and join us on the lines.
Will temp employees who pay union dues participate in the strike?
Yes! Temp employees who are members of our union will be striking with us. You should signup for picket shifts and join us on the lines.
