May - 2025 Alliance National Bargaining Update
On May 5, more than 300 Alliance union members from across the country gathered at Kaiser South Bay for a powerful Kick-Off Rally and March to launch 2025 National Bargaining. OFNHP President Sarina Roher emphasized that we are fighting for real wage increases, strong recruitment and retention strategies, and the respect all healthcare workers deserve.
From May 6–8, Alliance leaders and Kaiser Permanente management came together to begin formal bargaining discussions. We reaffirmed our shared commitment to the Labor Management Partnership and began addressing key national priorities, including:
- Substantial wage increases to keep pace with inflation and address labor shortages
- Eliminating wage disparities and closing regional gaps
- Ensuring all Kaiser work remains union work, including insourcing and organizing new KP entities like Maui Health and Risant Health
- Raising medical and retiree benefits to national standards
- Preserving the pension and securing a fair Performance Sharing Program (PSP)
- Expanding access to education through increased funding for the Ben Hudnall Memorial Trust, higher tuition reimbursement, and student loan repayment support
In addition to economic priorities, Alliance subgroups are tackling other critical issues:
- Staffing and patient care – Ensuring proper implementation of staffing agreements and long-term planning
- Technology and AI – Co-led by USW Local 7600 Vice President Dolores Hunsaker, this group is shaping how technology impacts patient care and bargaining unit work
- Partnership effectiveness – Focused on strengthening UBTs, Just Culture, and overall LMP performance
