COVID-19 sick leave extended through early 2021

After weeks of discussions with KP leaders, we are pleased to announce 7600 members will continue to receive COVID-19 sick leave through the first quarter of next year.   

The COVID-19 sick leave benefits were set to expire Dec. 31, 2020, and have now been extended to March 31, 2021. In particular, we had called on KP to refresh sick leave for individuals who have previously used the benefit.

KP is providing up to 80 hours of sick leave to refresh on Jan. 1, 2021. Unused hours in 2020 will not roll over.

The sick leave benefit eligibility ends March 31, with benefits to be used by April 30, 2021.  The eligibility and other details of the benefit remain the same and are in the attached slide.

More details:

  • Provides employees on KP payroll enterprise wide who are required to report to work away from home up to 80 hours of COVID-19 Paid Leave* to be used if they have been placed off work to self-quarantine due to COVID-19 symptoms, or orders from a doctor or federal, state, or local authorities
  • All Employees required to report to work at a KP facility (e.g. RNs, EVS workers, receptionists, pharmacy workers, etc.) or directed to work at a non-KP facility (e.g. as a home health professional) are eligible
  • All Employees (including non benefit eligible) on KP payroll are eligible up to the 80 hrs; 80 hours are prorated based on actual hours, 0.5 FTE would receive 40 hours
  • Maximum benefit for eligible employees is 80 hours of COVID-19 Paid leave
  • Employees are eligible for the COVID-19 Paid leave through March 31, 2021
  • If Public benefit becomes available that is comparable, this program will retire upon the effective date of the Public program, otherwise, program retires on March 31, 2021
  • Eligibility is through March 31, 2021
  • The hours provided by this program expire April 30, 2021

*In addition to regular sick leave
