UNITED STEELWORKERS (USW) LOCAL 7600 

NOTICE OF NOMINATIONS AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS 

Pursuant to a voluntary settlement entered on October 31, 2022, United Steelworkers (USW) Local 7600, will conduct new nominations and a new election for the office of President under the supervision of the Secretary of Labor. The U.S. Department of Labor is responsible for assuring that the election is conducted in accordance with Title IV of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act of 1959 (LMRDA) 

NOMINATIONS 

The nomination meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the USW Local 7600 office, located at 16855Arrow Blvd., Fontana, CA 92335. 

Nominations will be accepted at the nomination meeting in person or in writing. Written nomination must be submitted to Election Supervisor Phoenix Beausoleil via regular mail addressed to 915 Wilshire Blvd., Ste. 910, Los Angeles, CA 90017, or via fax at (213) 891-6968, or via email to [email protected]. Written nominations must be received by the Election Supervisor no later than 4:00 p.m. on December 14, 2022. Written nominations for the office of President must include the name of the nominee and the name and contact number of the nominator. Written nominations will be read on the floor before verbal nominations are taken. No second motions are required for nomination. Self-nominations are permitted. 

A nomination acceptance form must be submitted to the Election Supervisor no later than 12:00 p.m. on December 21, 2022. If nomination acceptance form is not received by the deadline, the individual will not be a candidate in the supervised election. The order of the candidates on the ballot will be listed aphetically. 

In accordance with Article XI, Section 6 of the USW Constitution, an active member must be in good standing at the time of the December 14, 2022 nomination meeting to be eligible to nominate candidates. 

Nominators can check their eligibility status by contacting USW Local 7600 Office at (909) 302-0000. 

Candidate qualifications are outlined in Article VII, Sections 9 of the USW Constitution and include, but are not limited to the following: 1. the member must be in continuous good standing for a period of 24 months immediately preceding the month in which the election is held and 2. the member is employed in an enterprise, public or private, or other place within the jurisdiction of the local union. 

Article VII, Section 10 of the USW Constitution regarding the regular meeting attendance requirement to run for office will be waived in this supervised election. 

ELECTION 

The election will be conducted by secret mail ballot. Every active member in good standing shall have the right to vote for the office of President. 

Voter Eligibility: Any member who is in good standing as of February 2, 2023 will be eligible to vote. Members can check their status or may make arrangements for payment of dues by contacting USW Local 7600 Office at (909) 302-0000. Members have until February 2, 2023, by 9:00 a.m. to pay their dues to vote. Retired members will not be allowed to vote in this supervised election. 

Ballot Procedures: Ballots will be mailed to all members on January 13, 2023. Members who do not receive a ballot by January 20, 2023 should contact Election Supervisor Phoenix Beausoleil to request a replacement ballot. Members who spoil their ballot and need another ballot may also request a replacement ballot. Requests must be received no later than 12:00 p.m. on January 30, 2023. Replacement ballots cannot be requested on behalf of another member. 

Deadline to Return Ballots: All voted ballots must be returned to the designated P.O. Box by 12:30 p.m. on February 2, 2023. Any ballot received after that date and time will not be counted. Voted ballots must be returned via regular first-class mail. No exception to this procedure will be made. 

Collection of Ballots: At 12:30 p.m. on February 2, 2023, ballots will be picked up from the designated post office and then transported to the USW Local 7600 office for the tally. The Election Supervisor will oversee the ballot tally. Results will be announced immediately following the tally. The candidate receiving a plurality of votes cast shall be declared elected. 

The term of office will commence on February 8, 2023 and conclude on May 8, 2024. 

Election Protests: Any member in good standing may protest the conduct of this election. All election protests, questions, and correspondence regarding the election should be made in writing directly to Election Supervisor Phoenix Beausoleil by no later than 3:00 p.m. on February 13, 2023 .
